
Four Hancock Football Players Named to Southern California Scholar-Athlete Team
Four Allan Hancock College football players have been honored for their work on and off the field during the 2013 season. Running back Joel Enriquez, tight end Connor Allen, safety Darryl Smith and lineman Dylan Potter were named to the 2013 Scholar-Athlete Team by the Southern California Football Association.
Student-athletes were eligible for consideration if they were active members of the football team for two seasons, completed a minimum of 36 units, 27 of which had to be in academic courses, and achieved a minimum 3.0 grand point average. 103 players from 21 teams were named to the 2013 SCFA Scholar-Athlete Team.
Allen, a 6-foot-2 tight end, caught seven passes for 91 yards in 2013 after he hauled in 14 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns in 2012 for the Bulldogs. Allen, a communication studies major, has a grade point average of 3.03. The Atascadero High School graduate is continuing his career next fall at the University of San Diego. The Toreros, who compete at the Football Championship Subdivision level, went 8-3 in 2013.
Enriquez enjoyed a breakout season in 2013. The sophomore running back from Santa Maria led the Bulldogs with 75 rushing yards. He averaged 94 yards on the ground per game and scored four touchdowns. The Santa Maria High School graduate also caught five passes for 47 yards. The kinesiology has a 3.08 grade point average.
Smith, a sophomore physical therapy major, has a 3.25 grade point average. He ranked second on the Bulldogs with 70 total tackles. The safety had two tackles for lost yardage and forced four fumbles. The New Jersey native intercepted one pass and broke up two passes for Hancock in 2013.
Potter, an Atascadero High School graduate, owns a 3.53 grade point average. The offensive tackle plans to become a doctor. He was named to the All-PAC-7 League First team after his senior year for the Greyhounds.
