
Four Bulldogs Named to SCFA Scholar-Athlete Team; Assioua Owns Second Highest GPA in Southern California Region
Four Allan Hancock College football players have been honored for their work on and off the field during the 2014 season. Quarterback Badreddine Assioua, linebackers Willie Iribarren and Tim McCullough, as well as wide receiver Zak Karsh were named to the 2014 Scholar-Athlete Team by the Southern California Football Association (SCFA).
Student-athletes were eligible for consideration if they were active members of the football team for two seasons, completed a minimum of 36 units, 27 of which had to be in academic courses, and achieved a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
The 2014 SCFA Scholar-Athlete Team includes 115 student-athletes from a total of 19 programs.
Iribarren led the Bulldogs and ranked fourth in the state with 98 total tackles, including 49 solo tackles. He ranked second in the state by averaging 10.9 tackles per game. The Lompoc High School graduate had nine tackles for loss, forced one fumble and returned one interception for a 20-yard touchdown. He recorded a career-high 19 tackles in the 2014 season opener at Santa Ana.
The All-Conference First Team selection has a cumulative 3.30 grade point average. The kinesiology major finished his Bulldog career with 157 total tackles, two interceptions and five pass breakups.
Karsh, a St. Joseph High School graduate, caught 19 passes for 354 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged a team-high 18.6 yards per reception. The business major has a cumulative grade point average of 3.52.
Assioua did not take a snap during the 2014 season. The Illinois native is a business administration major who has a cumulative 3.87 GPA. His grade point average is the second highest out of the 115 student-athletes on the 2014 Scholar-Athlete Team.
McCullough (#10) played in all 10 games for the Bulldogs. The Florida native recorded 38 total tackles, three for lost yardage, including half a sack. The linebacker recovered one fumble. The recreation management major has a 3.26 grade point average.
Hancock finished the 2014 season 3-3 in conference and 4-6 overall.
