Hancock Football Enters State Poll at No. 22
Fresh off its 67-21 rout of Santa Ana last weekend, the Allan Hancock College football team has entered the state poll for the first time in nearly three years. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 22 in this week's JC Athletic Bureau's Coaches State Poll. Hancock (1-0) received 78 votes to enter the top 25 among California Community College Athletic Association football teams.
Riverside received six first place votes and 338 points to become the top ranked team this week. San Francisco is ranked second with 321 points, while San Mateo climbed three spots to third in the state. Long Beach was ranked fourth, followed by Chabot, No. 6 Cerritos, Diablo Valley, No. 8 Canyons, No. 9 Ventura and Golden West.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to play five teams this season that are ranked in this week's state poll. They include No. 4 Long Beach, No. 6 Cerritos, No. 8 Canyons, No. 9 Ventura, and No. 16 Chaffey.
The Bulldogs renew their rivalry with Santa Barbara City College on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. at La Playa Stadium. Hancock leads the all-time series that dates back to 1956 by a 30-22-1 margin. Santa Barbara fell last week 45-34 at San Bernardino.
