Bulldogs Climb to No. 12 in State Poll Headed into Saturday's Game at No. 2 Long Beach
Coming off its bye week, the Allan Hancock College football team climbed five more spots to No. 12 this week in the JC Athletic Bureau's Poll of football coaches. Hancock received 147 points in the poll, which is a 13 point jump from last week when head coach Kris Dutra's team was ranked No. 17.
The Bulldogs are 3-1 overall and 1-0 in Northern League play after their 39-35 come-from-behind win at Bakersfield on Sept. 26. They are off to their best start since 2012.
Hancock returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m. at Long Beach City College. The Vikings are ranked second in the state and off to a 5-0 start. The Vikings received 330 points in the poll this week and trail only unanimous No. 1 Riverside (4-0). Golden West is ranked third, followed by Canyons (5-0) in fourth, San Mateo (4-1), San Francisco (4-1), Cerritos (4-1), American River (3-2), Modesto (3-2) at No.9, and No. 10 Ventura (3-2). Santa Rosa (3-2) climbed from the unranked to No. 11 this week, followed by Hancock, Sequoias (4-1), Chabot (3-2) and Victor Valley (5-0).
Long Beach overcame a 31-17 fourth quarter deficit to defeat Mt. San Antonio College 38-31 in double-overtime last Saturday. Quarterback Jack Lowary threw for 432 yards and five touchdowns. Wide receiver Mike Wilson finished with a career-high 14 catches for 218 yards and four touchdowns.
Hancock is looking for its first win in six all-time meetings with the Vikings. Last year, Hancock fell 31-21 at home to Long Beach.
