
Perry, Williams, King Among State Leaders
Four weeks into the 2015 football season, Allan Hancock College's Malik Williams, DaMarion King and Kevon Perry lead the state in a statistical category. Three more Bulldogs rank in the top 20 in the state. Hancock is off to a 3-1 start and ranked No. 12 in the state this week headed into this weekend's showdown at No. 2 Long Beach City College. The Vikings are 5-0. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
Perry (right), a sophomore defensive lineman, is tied with Mendocino's Jamar King for the state lead with 14 tackles for loss. Perry, an All-Conference First Team selection last year, has posted 3.5 TFL in all four games this season. His 4.5 sacks are tied for 19th in California. He leads the Bulldogs and ranks 31st in the state with 8.8 tackles per games.
Williams (below) ranks first among all players in the California Community College Athletic Association with an average of 201.8 all-purpose yards per game. The freshman started the season as a wide receiver and took over tailback duties in week three. In four games, Williams has 203 rushing yards, 158 receiving yards, 174 punt return yards and 272 kick return yards for a total of 807 yards. Connor Silveria of Shasta ranks second with 168.6 all-purpose yards per game.
Williams also ranks seventh in the state with a kick return average of 34 yards, including a 96-yard return against Bakersfield. He ranks 10th in punt return average at 15.8 yards. He scored on a 75-yard punt return against Santa Ana.
King (below), a sophomore defensive back, has recovered three fumbles already this season, which his tied for the most in the state. He picked up two loose balls in the opener against Santa Ana, including one in the end zone for a touchdown.
Lompoc High School graduate Rafael Arellano (below) is tied for third in the state with two fumble recoveries. The sophomore safety recovered fumbles against Santa Ana and Chaffey, as well as forced one fumble against Santa Barbara City College. Arellano, King and linebacker Gregory Artis-Payne are tied for second on the team with 31 total tackles.
Arroyo Grande High School graduate Elijah Holt (below) ranks 19th in California by averaging 27.5 yards per kick return. The sophomore has six returns for 165 yards, including a 48-yard run against Santa Barbara. Holt also returned a punt for a 70-yard touchdown against Santa Ana.
Sophomore Jose Morales (below) ranks 13th among kickers with five field goals in seven attempts. He booted a 47-yard field goal against Chaffey College. An All-Conference First Team selection as a freshman, the Lompoc High School graduate sits 17th in California with 30 total points, including 15 extra points. Last season, Morales ranked third in the state with 15 field goals, and eighth with 76 points.
