Football: Bulldogs Rout Antelope Valley on Sophomore Day, 63-23

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College football team secured a lopsided 63-23 victory over Antelope Valley College on Saturday afternoon for Sophomore Day. The Bulldogs move to an 8-2 record over AVC, which dates back to 1956, and have won the last five meetings. | BOX SCORE


ALLAN HANCOCK (6-3, 5-1) vs ANTELOPE VALLEY (1-8, 0-6)

QUARTER 1: AHC 0 | AVC 0

Neither team found the end zone in the opening frame the Marauders were forced to punt four times while Hancock punted once and failed on two fourth-down conversion attempts. 

QUARTER 2: AHC 28 | AVC 9

Hancock got on the board early in the second after using seven plays to build a 71-yard scoring drive. The drive was highlighted by a 48-yard completion from Jackson Clavel to Metuliki Tupou before John Allen brought it to an end with a two-yard scamper past the goal line. AVC answered on the following possession with a successful 37-yard field goal after J'syon Joseph recorded back-to-back pass breakups, forcing the 4th-and-10 try. 

The Bulldogs found the end zone again on the ensuing drive when a 25-yard completion from Clavel to Harris sparked some momentum for the home team. Harris and Ferrari Busby rotated through eight consecutive rushing attempts, which spanned 40 yards and came to a close with a two-yard scoring carry by Busby. 

On the next two possessions, both teams registered touchdowns on kickoff returns as AVC recorded an 84-yard streak before Makai Puga took it to the house with a 99-yard return. Hancock closed the opening half with one final scoring drive that featured 19 rushing yards by JP Luketu and nine by Allen before Harris notched the touchdown. 

QUARTER 3: AHC 14 | AVC 7

Coach Aguilar's squad struck early in the third quarter when Harris used just two carries to score on the opening drive. The first covered 59 yards while the second took just seven before the Las Vegas native found the end zone with only 64 seconds coming off of the clock. 

The Marauders bounced back with 2:45 remaining in the frame after building a seven-play drive that closed with a 14-yard touchdown pass, but Hancock answered on the ensuing possession when Allen posted a nine-yard rush past the goal line. 

QUARTER 4: AHC 21 | AVC 7

The Bulldogs started the final frame with a strip sack by Trent Kimmel that was recovered and returned by Brodee Tucker for 37 yards. Luketu punched the return through on the following carry after the offense took the field with one yard to go.  

Antelope Valley found the end zone once more with a 35-yard scoring keeper by the quarterback before Anthony Tucker registered a pair of rushing touchdowns.

NOTABLES

  • Dearion Prothro closed the game with three sacks that totaled a loss of 41 yards for AVC. He currently ranks fourth amongst all SCFA competitors with nine sacks on the season.
  • Caden Harris notched 125+ rushing yards for the sixth consecutive game. He is now tied at the top of the SCFA leaderboard with 14 rushing touchdowns on the season. 
  • Hancock operated primarily through the air and did not attempt a pass in the second half.
