Football: Four Bulldogs Claim All-State Awards, Togia Tabbed as All-American

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Four members of the Allan Hancock College football team were named as superlative award winners after a stellar 2023 campaign. The All-America and All-State honorees are chosen by the California Community College Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA), in conjunction with the JC Athletic Bureau. | FULL LIST

Leo Togia headlined the group after being tabbed as a First Team All-American for his work on the offensive line. The native of American Samoa was also one of five Hancock athletes to be named as a First Team All-State selection for Region III.

Joining him on the First Team All-State list was fellow offensive lineman, Saipale Fuimaono, who received the accolade for the second consecutive season. He becomes the fourth member of the program on record to receive back-to-back First Team All-State honors over the last decade at any position since defensive end Andrew Lauritzen ('21 & '22), tight end Jerome Afe ('18 & '19), and running back Cameron Artis-Payne ('11 & '12).

The Togia and Fuimaono duo also combined to become the eighth and ninth offensive linemen to receive an All-State designation for the program through the last 11 years.

Caden Harris rounded out the list of offensive honorees as another First Team selection for his work as the team's top running back. The National Northern League Offensive Player of the Year notched 125+ rushing yards in eight consecutive games en route to his 19th rushing touchdown of the season. He ended the fall campaign ranked atop the list of all competitors in the SCFA in both rushing touchdowns and rushing yards per game (131.4).

Dearion Prothro was the lone member of the Hancock squad on the opposite side of the ball to be honored after being named to the First Team All-State list for his work on the defensive line. Prothro closed his first season at AHC with a final tally of 10 sacks, ranking him 4th in the state, while totaling 14.5 tackles that forced a loss of 89 yards.

The Bulldogs closed the season with an overall record of 7-4 and earned a share of the National Northern League title for the second straight season after going 6-1 against league foes. They also secured the program's 21st postseason berth as they hosted the James H. Cobb Family Strawberry Bowl.
