Next Level: Football's AJ Masunu Signs With Eastern New Mexico

PORTALES, NEW MEXICO - Allan Hancock College football fullback, AJ Masunu, will be continuing his academic and athletic career at Eastern New Mexico University next season.

"Eastern New Mexico was at the top of my list while going through this process, especially since most schools have stopped running the triple option. They run a similar offense to what we run here at Allan Hancock and, as a power fullback, I feel that I will fit great into their program. I was born to run that ball and Eastern New Mexico felt like home for me," Masunu stated.

Masunu completed two seasons in a Bulldogs uniform, helping the program secure shares of the league title in back-to-back seasons. "My time here at AHC has been such a great experience. My first year was a struggle and an adjustment, but the coaches here took me under their wing and truly made me the athlete that I am today. I originally was recruited as a linebacker for the Bulldogs but moved to the fullback position in year two. My coaches told me that I would be a perfect fit and I believe that change was a great adjustment for both myself and the program," Masunu added. The product of American Samoa was recognized as a First Team All-League selection at the conclusion of his sophomore season after the position change. He ended the season by registering 173 rushing yards on 24 carries.

"AHC has not only prepared me for the football program at the next level, but my time here has also prepared me academically. I've learned to be a better athlete on the field and a better student in the classroom, which really put me on the right track moving forward and helped give me a clear vision of what my goal is for the future. I give all of the credit to the great people I've met here, my football brothers, and the staff in the athletics department," Masunu shared.

The Greyhounds are a Division II member of the NCAA and compete in the Lone Star Conference.
