Men's Basketball Coach named Coach of the Year, Langford is MVP

Allan Hancock College men’s basketball coach Ralph Gorton has been named Western State Conference coach of the Year for his efforts during the 2010-11 season. The men’s basketball team recently took first place in the Western State Conference for the first time since 1974. The team will play Los Angeles Harbor in the first round of the state playoffs on Wednesday, Feb. 23 in Los Angeles.
“Coach Gorton has done a tremendous job recruiting great talent to Allan Hancock College and has earned the respect of his colleagues in the Western State Conference,” said Kim Ensing, athletic director.
In addition to the conference title, three men’s basketball players received All-Conference honors and sophomore Ali Langford (Brighton )was named Most Valuable Player in the Western State Conference. Langford led the conference in scoring and rebounding throughout the season and consistently ranked in the top five in the state. Sophomore forward Jordan Dina (Hamden) was named first team All-Conference and sophomore Joey Araujo (Righetti)and freshman Jordan O'byrne (Lompoc ) were each named honorable mention. Dina and O’Byrne were ranked sixth and seventh in the conference in scoring, respectively, and Araujo ranked 13th in the conference in assists.
