Hancock Men's Basketball Opens Conference Wednesday at Home Against Moorpark

The Allan Hancock College men's basketball team opens Western State Conference play on Wednesday at home in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. The Bulldogs (5-9) host Moorpark (10-7) at 5 p.m.

The two squads faced off in the preseason when the Raiders edged Hancock 68-62 in a tournament hosted by El Camino. Freshman Matt Willkomm led the Bulldogs with 17 points, while Kadeem Minor added 13 points. Larry Bush led Moorpark with 18 points.

Hancock ended the preseason on a four-game slide. Sophomore guard Lavell White is the Bulldogs' leading scorer at 14.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore Lawrence Johnson averages 11.6 points per game and is shooting 36.4 percent from three-point territory.

Moorpark is led by freshman guards Joshua Brooks (15.1 points per game) and Larry Bush (14.4 ppg).

The Bulldogs finished third in conference last season with a 7-5 record. Moorpark tied for fourth place last year at 6-6. The Bulldogs won both conference meetings last season.

Defending WSC champion Cuesta will host the Bulldogs on Saturday. The Cougars are ranked 12th in the latest Southern California Regional Poll. Cuesta enters conference with a 10-6 record.
