Career-High from Willkomm Delivers 73-60 Win at Oxnard, Bulldogs Enter Tie for First

Freshman guard Matt Willkomm drained a career-high seven three-pointers to finish with a personal-best 26 points as the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team won at Oxnard 73-60 on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs finished the first half of Western State Conference play at 5-1 and evened their overall record at 10-10. Hancock entered a three-way tie for first place with idle Cuesta and L.A. Pierce.

Willkomm, an Arroyo Grande High School graduate, scored 13 points in the first half, while Kadeem Minor added 11 to give Hancock a 39-31 lead at intermission. Lawrence Johnson added seven points in the first 20 minutes.

Willkomm buried three shots from long range in the first half, and four more in the second half. His previous game-highs were four three-pointers and 25 points.

Minor finished the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Johnson racked up 14 points. Shamel Williams added 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Minor and Williams recorded their first-career double-doubles with the Bulldogs.

Hancock won by 13 points despite hitting just six of its 19 free throws in the second half. The Bulldogs made nine of their 22 free throws for the game, a 41 percent mark.

Oxnard shot 35.7 percent from the field, including 33 percent (8 for 24) from three-point range. Hancock forced 19 Oxnard turnovers.

The Bulldogs open the second half of conference play on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 3 p.m. against Moorpark. Hancock routed Moorpark 73-50 earlier this month in Santa Maria to open conference play.
