Willkomm, Minor and Miller Lead Bulldogs to 102-97 Overtime Win at Moorpark. Hancock Stays Tied for First

(Moorpark, CA) Matt Willkomm hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime and the Bulldogs, who were down to five players in overtime, pulled out a 102-97 come-from-behind win at Moorpark on Saturday. The Bulldogs improved to 6-1 in Western State Conference play and 11-10 overall. Hancock remains tied for first place with Cuesta College and LA Pierce headed into the Bulldogs' showdown with the Cougars on Wednesday, February 4, in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium at 5 p.m

Willkomm led the Bulldogs with 24 points, while Kadeem Minor and Andre Miller had 22 points apiece. Sophomore guard Lawrence Johnson added 17 points. Arinze Anakwenze added eight points.

Minor and Shamel Williams both fouled out in the first minute of overtime leaving head coach Tyson Aye with just five eligible players. Freshman Alex Chaidez, a Paso Robles High School graduate, buried two key free throws to give Hancock a 100-97 lead with eight seconds remaining in overtime. Miller added two more free throws with one second to go to provide the five-point cushion.

With Hancock down by three in the closing seconds of the second half, Anakwenze grabbed an offensive rebound and kicked it out to Willkomm, who buried the game-tying three to force extra time tied 86-86. The Bulldogs outscored the host Raiders 16-11 to sweep the home and away conference series with Moorpark.

The Bulldogs trailed 47-38 at halftime before finding their after intermission. Johnson had 14 points and Minor had 16 of his 22 points in the second half. In overtime, Willkomm had seven points, while the Bulldogs hit seven of their nine shots from the free throw line.

Overall, Hancock made 23 of their 34 free throws, which equated to 68 percent. Hancock buried 11 three-point shots, including six from Willkomm. The Arroyo Grande High School graduate made a career-high seven and scored a career-high 26 points in Hancock's win at Oxnard on Wednesday.
