Hancock Basketball Fans Invited to Meet the Bulldogs Night on Wednesday, Oct. 21
Basketball fans can get a sneak peek of the 2015-16 Allan Hancock College men's and women's basketball teams. The college will host Meet the Bulldogs on Wednesday, October 21, at 5 p.m. inside Joe White Memorial Gymnasium on the Santa Maria campus. The third annual event is free and open to the public.
"Hancock coaches and players are thrilled to kick off the season with this event," said third-year women's basketball head coach Cary Nerelli. "Last year, Meet the Bulldogs was a huge success and we are determined to make the 2015 edition even better."
The event will feature a men's blue and gold intrasquad scrimmage, as well as a showcase of the women's team. There will also be a raffle ticket drawing, free hot dogs and drinks.
"Building and developing relationship in the Central Coast basketball community have been major priorities of mine," said men's basketball head coach Tyson Aye, who also oversees the Hancock Youth Basketball Club. "This event is an extension of that. Fans can come meet the team and really get behind Bulldog basketball."
The men open the season against College of the Sequoias at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 6, at a tournament hosted by Cuesta College. The Bulldogs are coming off a 14-win season that included a share of the Western State Conference championship. They are led by sophomore Matt Willkomm, an All-Conference First Team pick last season and an Arroyo Grande High School graduate.
The women start their season at home on Friday, November 6, with an 11 a.m. game against Porterville. Coach Nerelli's squad is coming off a 12-win season. Sophomores Marissa Torres (Templeton HS) and Michaila Miller (Santa Barbara HS) return to lead the Bulldogs in 2015-16.
