Hancock Earns 71-59 Come-from-Behind Win over Rio Hondo to Start L.A. Southwest Tournament

Shemarr Parker hit three of the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team's nine second-half 3-pointers to fuel a 71-59 come-from-behind win over Rio Hondo to open a tournament hosted by L.A. Southwest Thursday evening. The Bulldogs snapped a four-game slide to improve to 5-7. Rio Hondo fell to 7-7.

Hancock trailed 30-19 at the half and did not make a 3-pointer in the first 20 minutes. That all changed after the break. Parker, a Santa Maria High School graduate, hit three from long-range to finish with a career-high 12 points. Marcellus Garrick and Lompoc High School graduate Torey Sims added two 3s apiece to help Hancock outscore Rio Hondo 52-29 over the final 20 minutes.

Garrick, a sophomore, scored 16 of his team-high 20 points in the second half. He sank all six of his free throws in the second half and 8-of-9 on the night.

Erik Kinnebrew finished with a season-best 13 points. Deon Whiteside added eight, and Sims, a freshman, finished with six points.

Hancock went 11-for-12 from the line in second half and 16-for-19 in the game.

The Bulldogs face L.A. Valley at 3 p.m. Friday, and Orange Coast on Saturday at 5 p.m.
