Gabrys Sadaunykas Signs with Division II-Level Humboldt State

Gabrys Sadaunykas came to the Central Coast from Lithuania a few years ago to pursue his dream of signing a basketball scholarship with a four-year university. After one season with Allan Hancock College, Sadaunykas has achieved his goal. The sophomore guard will play Division II basketball next year for Humboldt State University.

A member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association, Humboldt State competes at the NCAA Division II level. Tenth-year head coach Steve Kinder has led the Lumberjacks to three NCAA Tournament appearances and three conference titles. Humboldt went 17-14 during the 2018-19 season.

Sadaunykas averaged 6.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game as a sophomore for Hancock. The 6'5" guard scored a season-high 16 points and tallied nine rebounds and seven assists in a win at Cabrillo.

Sadaunykas returned to Hancock after two years, one as a redshirt, at the University of Minnesota Crookston, a Division II program. He averaged 2 points and 1.3 rebounds over 23 games. He signed with Minnesota Crookston after graduating from St. Joseph High School, where he led the Knights to a CIF championship in 2015-16, after averaging 16.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game to garner Pac 8 Most Valuable Player and All-CIF recognition.

He is the 26th former Bulldog basketball player to earn a scholarship to a four-year university since Tyson Aye became head coach of Hancock in 2013.

Sadaunykas and numerous other Hancock student-athletes, who already have or will soon commit to four-year universities, will be honored during a ceremony at 2:30 PM in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday, May 14.
