Allan Hancock Men's Basketball Opens Season at Home with 100-75 Win Over West Hills Lemoore

Sophomore Tasson Aubry-Thomas led all scorers with 19 points and sophomore Mayowa Akinsanya led the team in rebounds with 11 in the Allan Hancock College men's basketball 100-75 season opener win over West Hills Lemoore Sunday afternoon.  

Aubry-Thomas scored his 19 points in just 16 minutes off the bench. He also provided a strong defensive presence under the basket with nine rebounds an three of four Hancock shot blocks. Thomas went 7-11 from the field and 5-7 from the free throw line. 

The Bulldogs ended with a better shooting percentage over the Golden Eagles going 48 percent from the field on 36-for-75 shooting and 24-for-39 from the charity stripe. West Hills shot 24-for-62 from the field and 23-from-34 from the free throw line. 

Hancock's big men played well under both buckets and pulled in 59 rebounds in the game to the Golden Eagles 25. Hancock moved the ball around well and beat West Hills in assists 19-12 and forced 18 turnovers off steals alone. 

The Bulldogs took the lead eight minutes in and never let go for the rest of the game. 11 Bulldogs scored at least two points in the home opener win. 

Sophomore DJ Searcy scored 15 points, freshman Bryce Craver scored 11 points, and three more Bulldogs scored 10 points each. Akinsanya led the team in rebounds with 11, Thomas and Sophomore Xavier Cooper tied with nine each and Searcy pulled in six. Cooper and freshman Kyle Harding moved the ball around for six assists each. Craver had the quickest hands with six steals.

Men's basketball starts off the season strong at 1-0 and West Hills Lemoore fell to 0-2. The Bulldogs are on the road in San Luis Obispo when then take on Cerro Coso College Friday, Novemeber 8, at 5:00 PM at Cuesta College for the first day of Cuesta's Winter Classic.
