Men's Basketball Wins Twice at Coach Carr Classic

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College men's basketball team picked up a pair of wins before suffering one loss while competing at the Coach Carr Classic, hosted by San Jose City College, on December 15-17.

GAME ONE: AHC 79, MONTEREY PENINSULA 77 | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs outlasted Monterey Peninsula College to open the three-day event and pulled out a narrow victory after battling through a back-and-forth affair from start to finish. Both teams entered the intermission with 37 points apiece, but Hancock closed the second frame and put the game away in regulation with a two-point advantage at the buzzer.

Both programs were busy at the charity stripe, combining for a total of 45 free throw attempts on the night. Coach Aye's squad faced a cold showing from distance after going 8-for-31 from beyond the arc but managed to find success inside and closed the game with an overall mark of 43.9 percent from the floor. Onias Outlaw and Vondre Chase led the scoring effort for the AHC crew with 14 points apiece. Darryl Brooks II, Taevon Pierre-Louis, and Kevin Kogbara also finished in double figures with 11 points each. Pierre-Louis recorded his eighth double-double of the season after grabbing 19 rebounds. He and Outlaw led all distributors in the game with seven assists each while Kogbara set a pair of career-high marks after registering three steals and three blocks.

GAME TWO: AHC 63, DE ANZA 55 | BOX SCORE

Hancock grabbed control of the pace early in game two and held a nine-point lead at the intermission en route to a 63-55 victory at the end of regulation. Both teams finished the night with 22 made field goal attempts while facing shooting woes from the three-point line after hovering around the 20 percent mark. Aggressive rebounding and success at the free throw line proved to be the difference makers for the Bulldogs after making 14 of their 23 attempts from the charity stripe while also holding a 36-18 advantage on the boards.

Outlaw led the team in scoring on day two with 16 points, which included a 7-for-9 finish from the floor, followed by a 14-point performance from Brooks. Caleb Whalen rounded out the top scorers after adding nine points while Pierre-Louis reported team-best marks of seven assists and nine rebounds.

GAME THREE: SAN JOSE 71, AHC 61 | BOX SCORE

San Jose snapped AHC's four-game winning streak on the final day of competition after pulling away from a tight game in the second half. A swarming Jaguars defense limited Hancock to just 31.7 percent efficiency from the field and a 4-for-18 (22.2%) from distance, while finding success by shooting roughly 40 percent for both categories on their own end of the floor.

Kogbara led a group of four double-figure finishers with 14 points, followed by 12 apiece from Pierre-Louis and Brooks. Outlaw rounded out the top scorers for the visiting squad with 10 points while Cleevas Craig tied a career-high after swatting three blocks.
