Men's Basketball Splits Two-Day Showing at Hinson's Tire Pros Winter Classic

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College men's basketball team picked up one win and suffered one loss during a two-day showing at the Hinson's Tire Pros Winter Classic, hosted by Cuesta College, over the weekend. 


GAME ONE: SEQUOIAS 78, AHC 73 | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs nearly overcame an 11-point halftime deficit on day one, but fell short against College of the Sequoias in a 78-73 decision. The Giants won the rebounding battle with a 40-31 advantage while the Bulldogs forced 17 COS turnovers. 

Taevon Pierre-Louis led the way with a double-double performance after scoring 20 points and snagging 10 rebounds. The Ohio native also registered team-best marks of four assists and three steals. Jahki Parrinello and River Ortiz followed with 13 points apiece. The double figure showing by Ortiz was highlighted by a 4-for-6 showing from long range after coming off the bench. 

GAME TWO: AHC 72, GAVILAN 61 | BOX SCORE

Hancock trailed by three at the intermission on day two but used a 42-28 second half surge to secure the victory over Gavilan College on Saturday afternoon. While both teams hovered around the mid-30 percent mark from distance, the Bulldogs saw a significant improvement in their shooting efficiency from both the field and the charity stripe. They also won the battle of the boards, 30-24, and forced the Rams to commit 22 turnovers. 

Mylo Santos was tops for the AHC crew after a 7-for-15 showing from the floor. The product of New York posted a final tally of 17 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Pierre-Louis registered 15 points and a team-high seven assists after coming off of the bench. Perrinello rounded out the top scorers with 11 points after going 3-for-6 from the field and 5-for-6 at the free throw line. 


Hancock is set to open the home slate of action on Friday, November 17th, for day one of the annual Home Motors Tournament. They will match up against San Jose City College for the opener before battling Santa Barbara City College on day two and San Diego City College on day three.
