Men's Basketball Goes 2-0 at AHC Holiday Classic

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College men's basketball team closed the December slate with a seven game winning streak after sweeping the annual AHC Holiday Classic on December 29-30.

The Bulldogs opened the event with a 62-55 win over MiraCosta College on Friday evening before topping Fresno City College, 81-73, on Saturday afternoon. Mylo Santos led AHC by averaging 19.5 points per game, while Jahki Parrinello notched 15.5 per day and Taevon Pierre-Louis posted 18.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per contest.

The home crew trailed by four points at halftime on opening day but overcame the deficit by outscoring the Spartans, 35-24, in the second half. Parrinello and Pierre-Louis led the way with 18 points apiece, followed by 14 points from Santos.

Hancock and Fresno appeared to be evenly matched on Saturday as just a one-point difference separated the two programs at the intermission. Teams continued to exchange baskets throughout the second half before the score was knotted at 73-73 with 2:26 remaining in regulation. A three-pointer from Santos put AHC ahead for the final time with 1:44 to go and sparked a 7-0 streak. Pierre-Louis added one free throw before Jeremyah Aquino added four points to close out the victory run.

Santos led four double figure finishers for the home squad with 25 points, while Pierre-Louis followed with a stat-stuffing performance that featured 18 points, 17 rebounds, and five assists. Aquino and Parrinello rounded out the top scorers with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Coach Aye's squad is scheduled to return to action on Friday, January 5th, with a road trip to Citrus College for the final non-conference contest of the season.
