The weekend thriller featured 10 ties and nine lead changes throughout regulation as the two programs went back and forth. The Cougars (11-6, 0-1 WSC) saw their largest lead of the night early in the first half after building a 10-point buffer in the opening five minutes of action. Hancock (12-6, 2-0 WSC) erased the deficit down the stretch and trailed by one at the intermission. The Bulldogs fought through a tightly contested second frame and created a five-point difference with two and a half minutes to go, a lead that they managed to maintain until time expired.
Both sides hovered near the 45 percent mark from the floor, but AHC excelled with a 47.4 percent (9-19) finish from beyond the arc. The home squad also converted 16 Cuesta turnovers for 15 points on the opposite end and won the rebounding battle by one.
Trenten Lavender led the way in scoring with 19 points while dishing out three assists. AHC's reserves outscored those from Cuesta at a 27-8 margin, led by an 18-point showing from Arlind Konjuhi. Ay-Keen Richardson rounded out the double digit performers with 11 points, while Noah Morris and Jordan Kamga hauled in a team-best of six rebounds apiece.
The Bulldogs are set to return to action on Wednesday, January 15th, on the road at LA Pierce College for another Western State Conference (North) contest. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 6 PM in Woodland Hills.
