Brackett Leads Hancock to 5th Place Finish at First WSC Tournament of 2014

Led by a 2-over par from freshman Shawn Brackett, the Allan Hancock College men's golf team finished fifth at the first Western State Conference tournament of the 2014 season on Monday. The tournament took place at the Valencia Country Club in Valencia.

Brackett, a St. Joseph High School graduate, shot a 74 to pace the Bulldogs. He tied for third overall in the individual standings out of 48 golfers.

Atascadero High School graduate Triston Ioppini shot a 10-over 82, while Corey Lockaton, a freshman from Atascadero, finished with an 87. Righetti High School graduate Landon Brown and Righetti High School graduate Justin Roxbrough both finished at 92. Jan Marc Gueits, a freshman from Pennsylvania, shot a 107 for the Bulldogs. The top five scores were used to come up with Hancock's team score of 427.

Jonas Guriby Dahl from the College of the Canyons carded the lowest score of the day with a 2-under 70.

Canyons won the team competition with a total score of 367. Santa Barbara finished second with a 402, Ventura came in third with a 424, Citrus came in fourth at 426, followed by Hancock in fifth. Glendale finished sixth with a 432, Antelope Valley at 433 and Bakersfield with a 436.

The Bulldogs return to action on Monday, Feb.17, at a conference tournament hosted by Santa Barbara City College at Alisal Ranch in Solvang. The tournament starts at 10 a.m.
