Nicolini Fires a 73, Hancock Finishes Fifth at WSC Tournament #5
Alejandro Nicolini carded a 1-over par 73 to lead the Allan Hancock College men's golf team to a fifth place finish during the fifth Western State Conference tournament of the season on Monday at the Antelope Valley Country Club in Palmdale.
Hancock finished fifth in the team standings with a team score of 387. Santa Barbara won with a season-low 368, followed by Canyons at 376, Bakersfield at 380 and Ventura at 382. The Bulldogs finished ahead of Citrus, Antelope Valley and Glendale.
Nicolini tied for sixth in the individual standings. Santa Barbara's Blake McPherson and Sidney Wolf of Canyons were the co-medalists after firing 3-under 69's.
Hancock's Shawn Brackett finished in the top 10 with a 75, while Triston Ioppini carded a 4-over 76. Justin Roxbrough fired a 9-over 81, Cory Lockaton finished wth an 82, while Jan Marc Gueits ended with an 86.
After five tournaments, Hancock sits tied for fourth place overall with Bakersfield at 15-20. Canyons leads at 33-2 with Santa Barbara in second at 29-6 and Ventura sits in third at 27-8. Citrus (11-24), Glendale(6-29) and Antelope Valley (4-31) round out the bottom three teams in the overall standings.
In the individual standings, Wolf of Canyons leads with an average round of 71.80. Nicolini ranks 12th at 77.50, while Ioppini (78.6) and Brackett (79.0) sit 19th and 20th overall.
The Bulldogs host the sixth conference tournament on Monday, March 31, at the Santa Maria Country Club at 10 a.m.
