Swimming: Men Finish Third, Women Seventh at WSC Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College men's and women's swimming programs had a successful showing Western State Conference Championship, hosted on the Cuesta College campus. The top eight finishers in individual events, along with the top three teams in relays, earned medals at the meet. 

The men's team earned a 3rd place finish in the field of nine after tallying 447 points in their WSC Championship debut. Max Pecile headlined the weekend with a pair of 1st place finishes in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events and a runner-up performance in the 500-yard freestyle. Asa Marsalek secured a 2nd place finish in the 400-yard individual medley while Blake Simpson was 3rd in the 1,650-yard freestyle. The men's 800-yard freestyle relay (Pecile, Jarred Torres, Marsalek, Simpson) came in 2nd place after turning in a final time of 7:18.31. The 200-yard medley relay (Pecile, Marsalek, Elias Lopez, Gabriel Clear) also earned a medal after a 3rd place finish with a time of 1:39.76. 

The short-staffed women's team claimed the 7th place slot after totaling 206 points, despite only having four swimmers competing. Lizzie Hernandez led the effort after earning 46 individual points, which included a runner-up performance in the 400-yard individual medley and a 3rd place mark in the 200-yard backstroke. Jamielynn Allen added 36 individual points after earning three medals, while Julia Zimsen earned one. 

An official announcement of CCCAA State Championship qualifiers is expected to be made public on Monday, April 25th, by the state office.
