Five Track and Field Women Place in Top Five at Ventura Meet

The Allan Hancock College women’s track and field team had a strong showing at the Western State Conference Coast Inland meet at Ventura College Friday, April 1. Together, the women’s team had ten top five showings from five separate athletes.
Sophomore Britanie Smith (Pioneer Valley) and freshman Mikaila Davis (Nipomo) each placed in the top five in three separate events. Smith placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.94. She also placed third in the long jump (5.04m) and first in the triple jump (10.82m). Davis had her best showing so far this season with a second place finish in the shot put (10.2m) third in the discus (27.39m) and third in the javelin (24.6m).
Throwers on the women’s side had a good meet in general, with Melani Rose Teixeira (Nipomo)placing third in the shot put (9.91m) and eighth in the discus (23.38m); Stephanie Watrons (Wheatland Union)placing second in the discus (31.07m) and fifth in the javelin (19.62); and Chrissy Bessermin (Righetti )placing fifth in the discus (25.12).
The team's next meet is Saturday, April 9 at Hartnell College.
