de Comarmond Wins Twice, Three Others Place First, Bulldogs Finish Second at Bakersfield Relays

Steven de Comarmond won two events, Bruce Detter, Eric Grant, and Kenji Conaway each won an event, while Cassandra Bantz earned 24 total points during the Bakersfield Relays on Friday afternoon to lead the Allan Hancock College men's track and field team to a second place finish. The women finished in fourth place.

The Hancock men finished second out of five teams with 145 points. Glendale won with 262 total points. Antelope Valley finished third with 73, followed by the host Renegades with 59 and LA Trade Tech with 14.

The Glendale women won with 175 total points. Bakersfield finished second with 153, followed by Antelope Valley with 73 points. The Hancock women placed fourth with 46 points, while LA Trade Tech finished last with 33 points.

Grant, a freshman from Righetti High School, won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.48 seconds to capture 10 points. He also finished fourth overall in the 200 with a time of 23.30 seconds to earn four points. Grant placed fourth in the long jump with a top leap of 5.84 meters. The freshman racked up 18 points for Hancock.

de Comarmond won the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 15.59 seconds. The Santa Maria High School graduate also finished first in the 200 meter dash at 22.89 seconds. He also finished third in the 400 when he crossed the finish line in a season-best 51.40 seconds. de Comarmond earned a total of 26 points.

Esteban DeLaCruz, a Righetti High alumnus, placed fourth in the 1,500 with a season-best time of 4:17.81.

In the men's relays, Hancock placed third in the 4x100 meter at 43.60 seconds. The Bulldogs also placed sixth in the 4x400 at 3:48.57.

In the field events, Pioneer Valley High School graduate Arman Jay Cabandong finished second in the high jump with a clearance of 4 feet, 9 inches. Ashton Favela cleared 11 feet, one inch to place fourth and Khalil Mondol cleared 10 feet to finish fifth in the men's pole vault. Leroy Johnson was runner-up in the long jump with a top jump of 20 feet, one inch.

Conaway finished third in the long jump at 19-6 and first in the triple jump at 38-6. The Arroyo Grande High School alumnus also placed sixth in the javelin throw (115-3.75) to finish the day with 18 points to his credit.

Detter, a sophomore, won the shot put (39 feet, 10 inches) and placed second in the discus throw (121-10). Gregory Uzueta, a freshman from Nipomo High School, came in third in the discus (111-5), fourth in the hammer throw (59-4) and fifth in the shot put (34-1). Jared Cook came in second in the hammer throw (83-3). 

On the women's side, Bantz placed fifth in the 100 meter dash (14.29 seconds), third in the 400 hurdles (1:18.76), as well as runner-up in the pole vault (8 feet) and in the long jump (13-5). All together, the freshman from Nipomo High School earned 24 total points.

Ines Mendoua, who arrived at Hancock from Cameroon, finished sixth in the 200 (31.29 seconds) and fourth in the 400 (1:11.76) to rack up five points. Xochtil Rodrigue earned two points in the 1,500 with a fifth place time of 1:22.58, while Dalia Ordaz placed sixth (1:36.06) to earn another point for the Bulldogs.

In the women's relay races, the Bulldogs won the 4x100 in 1:03.34 and finished fourth in the 4x400 at 6:01.71.

Hancock returns to action on March 21 at the Santa Barbara Easter Relays.
