Gutierrez Breaks School Record as Track Opens at Moorpark
MOORPARK, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College track & field programs kicked off the 2025 campaign by participating in the Moorpark Season Opener, hosted by Moorpark College, on Friday. | FULL RESULTS
John Gutierrez headlined the day for the men's program after winning the 3,000-meter race. His final time of 9:00.15 set a new school record, topping the previous time of 9:15.07 set by Steven Youngblood in 2017. Jacob Garbiso also secured his first victory of the season after a 13.57-meter heave in the shot put.
Makayla Gonzalez was a shining light for the women's program after picking up a pair of top finishes. She won the 2,000-meter steeplechase (8:17.97) and the 600-meter run (1:49.57). Newcomer Abigail Aponte picked up a trio of top-four finishing in the throwing events after finishing third in javelin (26.80 meters), third in discus (33.72 meters), and fourth in shot put (10.33 meters).
The Bulldogs are set to return to action on Friday, February 7th, for the Battle of the Regions event at Bakersfield College.
