Track & Field Continues Season at Battle of the Regions
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College track & field programs opened the 2025 season by competing in the Battle of the Regions event, hosted by Bakersfield College, on Friday afternoon. | FULL RESULTS
The women's side was highlighted by a trio of first place finishes from Abigail Aponte in the spot put (10.05 meters), discus (30.55 meters), and the javelin (26.03 meters). Sophomore distance runner Makayla Gonzalez also secured a top performance after clocking a final time of 5:19.69 in the 1,500-meter race.
The men's team saw a slew of success on the track and in the throwing events. The 4x400 relay team - comprised of Hernan Aguirre, Emilio Benitez Aguinaga, John Gutierrez, Emmanuel Pompa-Velasco - finished in first place with a time of 3:43.53, while Yussif Salam secured a top spot in the 400-meter event (58.36). Jacob Garbiso picked up two more top titles after a 13.91-meter heave in the shot put and a 38.76-meter chuck in the discus. Esequiel Gauna rounded out the top placement performers with a 37.23-meter throw in the javelin.
The Bulldogs will continue action on Friday, February 15th, by competing in the Pirate Invitational at Ventura College.
