Track & Field Teams Find Success at WSC North
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College track & field programs continued to raise the bar while competing at the WSC North Meet, hosted by Cuesta College, on Friday afternoon. | FULL RESULTS
The men's team took third place out of five scoring programs with 94 points on the day. John Gutierrez broke his own school record and took first place in the 3,000-meter race with a final time of 8:54.63. His previous record of 9:00.15 was clocked in February at the Moorpark Season Opener. Jacob Garbiso also continued his domination in the throwing events with a pair of first place finishes in the shot put (12.81 meters) and hammer (33.28 meters) events while taking second in the discus (35.27 meters).
The women's program finished in fourth place out of five scoring teams after tallying 55 points at the event. Abigail Aponte led the way with a top finish in discus (33.77 meters), runner-up mark in shot put (10.03 meters), and took third place in the javelin (23.57 meters). Emily Carpenter and Makayla Gonzalez also notched second place performances in the 400-meter dash and the 1,500-meter run, respectively.
Hancock is set to return to action on March 7th as the host of the 2nd Annual Henry Kirk Invitational. Throwing events are scheduled to begin at 10 AM, followed by the remainder of the meet schedule anticipated to begin at 11 AM.
