Track & Field Continues Season with Weekend of Success
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College track & field programs continued the 2025 slate with a pair of weekend meets. Action began on Friday at home as the Bulldogs hosted the 2nd Annual Henry Kirk Invitational before the distance runners set off on Saturday to compete at the Oxy Distance Carnival, hosted by Occidental College.
Both the men's and women's programs finished in 5th place of seven scoring teams on Friday afternoon. Throwers continued to shine for Hancock as Jacob Garbiso collected two top marks in the men's discus (31.18m) and the men's shot put (13.69m), while Esequiel Gauna took first in men's javelin (38.43m). On the women's side, Abigail Aponte also locked down the javelin throw with a 29.88-meter heave to win the event.
At the Oxy Distance Carnival, John Gutierrez took 27th out of 209 runners in the men's 5,000-meter race with a time of 14:52.14. Makayla Gonzalez also had a great outing and worked her way up to the seventh-best time in AHC history after clocking 19:34.35 in the women's 5,000-meter race.
The Bulldogs are set to resume competition with a two-day showing at the Orange Coast Classic on March 13-14 at Orange Coast College.
