Track & Field Qualifies Five Individuals in Eight Events for SoCal Finals
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College track & field programs will be represented by five individuals in eight events at the 2025 Southern California Championship after a solid showing at the prelims event on Saturday at Saddleback College.| FULL RESULTS
For throwing events, the top 12 finishers have automatically advanced to the next stage of regional competition. In the steeplechase, the top four finishers from each of the two heats plus the next four fastest times earned the right to advance.
On the men's side, Jacob Garbiso led the way by advancing in three separate throwing events: discus (4th, 41.62m), shot put (5th, 13.93m), and hammer throw (12th, 39.01m). Esequiel Gauna will represent the throwers in the javelin after a 10th place performance (43.35m). Juan Santiago has secured his place at the 3C2A State Championship after racing in the men's 10,000-meter event, which was run as a final on Saturday. He finished in 9th at the prelim event but earned his way as an automatic qualifier after hitting an "A" standard time of 32:30.36.
The women's team will see three individuals compete in the four events this weekend. Makayla Gonzalez and Maraitzel Moreno Gutierrez have both advanced after securing 9th place and 12th place finishes, respectively, in the steeplechase. Abigail Aponte will round out the advancing competitors after 12th place finishes in both the shot put (9.57m) and hammer throw (36.20m).
The SoCal Championship is set to take place on Saturday, May 10th, back at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.
