Men's Cross Country Closes Campaign at the WSC Finals

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The men's and women's cross country programs wrapped up the regular season of competition at the Western State Conference Finals on Friday afternoon, hosted by LA Mission College. | FULL RESULTS

The women's team continued to improve on the most successful showing in at least three decades with a second place finish through the field of 10. Itandehui Olea led the way for the program with a third place performance out of 66 individual athletes after posting a final time of 19:07.9. Maraitzel Moreno Gutierrez (20:24.1) and Makayla Gonzalez (21:57.9) followed by placing 14th and 23rd, respectively. 

Olea and Moreno Gutierrez landed on the First Team All-Conference list after placing in the top-14 at the finals. Gonzalez and Jazmine Cruz (27th place / 22:33.9) were Second Team All-Conference honorees, which represents individuals that place 15th through 28th. Annais Vega (29th / 23:04.5) rounded out the honorees as an All-Conference Honorable Mention award winner. 

The short-handed men's program was unable to post a team score after seeing only four athletes race. Ethan Stenhouse was tops for the men with a final time of 26:42.7, leading to a 57th place finish through the field of 100 individual competitors. Pablo Ruiz (82nd / 29:20.2) and Isaiah Lopez (96th / 32:07.4) also finished in the top-100. 

The women's program will advance as a team to the SoCal Championship on November 3rd. The event will take place at El Dorado Park in Long Beach.
