Gutierrez Takes Second at MXC SoCal Regional Championship, Advances to State Championship
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College men's cross country program capped off a stellar fall campaign at the 2024 Southern California Regional Championship, hosted by Chaffey College, on Friday morning. The top 16 teams from the SoCal event and eight teams from the NorCal Regional Championship automatically qualified for the state meet. Additionally, the top 30 individuals who are not part of a qualifying team advance based on their finishing place at their respective regional meet. | FULL RESULTS
John Gutierrez led the way for AHC and picked up an All-Region accolade after a runner-up performance with a final time of 20:48.3. His second place finish through the field of 191 individual competitors came just six seconds behind the event winner and less than one full second ahead of the third place racer.
Hernan Aguirre crossed next at 130th with a time of 24:14.3, followed by Pablo Ruiz in 159th (26:22.8).
The Bulldogs qualified as a team for the regional event for just the second time in 20 years, but did not post a team score after seeing two disqualifications due to uniform violations. San Diego Mesa College claimed the regional crown, followed by Mt. San Antonio College and San Bernardino Valley College.
Gutierrez will represent the Bulldogs by competing as an individual at the 3C2A State Championship on Saturday, November 23rd. The meet will be held at Woodward Park in Fresno.
