New Scoreboard, Field Improvements Celebrated at March 10 Softball Game

The Allan Hancock College softball team will celebrate major renovations to their field and the addition of a new scoreboard on March 10 at 2:30 p.m. The scoreboard will be unveiled at a special ceremony prior to the Bulldog’s 3 p.m. home game against Mt. San Jacinto College.

In addition to the new scoreboard and field renovation, new batting cages and a brand new home dugout have been added.

The dimensions of field were changed to comply with the California Community College Athletic Association guidelines for a community college softball field by reducing the distance from the outfield fence to home plate. Prior to these changes, the Hancock softball field was optimized for a men’s recreational team, not a collegiate softball team.

The improvements to the field and facilities were paid for with funds raised at the Joe White Memorial Dinner and Auction, an annual event organized by the Hancock College Boosters, Inc. to raise funds for capital improvements. The scoreboard was installed by volunteers from Tate Electric, Electricraft and Sage Electric and members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
