Regalado Homers to Lead Hancock to 6-0 Win over No.9 Citrus, Chenault Whiffs 14

Missy Regalado slugged a three-run home run in the first inning and Katie Chenault threw her second straight shutout as the Allan Hancock College softball team knocked off Citrus College, the ninth ranked team in the Southern California Regional, 6-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Hagerman Sports Complex.

The Bulldogs extended their winning streak to eight and improved to 9-3 overall.

Chenault struck out five of the first six batters she faced and finished with 14 strikeouts. She did not allow a hit until the fourth inning and scattered four hits and three walks in the game. The freshman has struck out 30 in her last two outings. The Righetti High School graduate has 109 strikeouts this season in 75 innings pitched.

Hancock struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Tawny Nunes singled with one out. The Lompoc High School graduate stole second base and stayed there when Chenault drew a two-out walk. Regalado crushed a line drive over the right-center field wall for a three-run home run. The freshman from Pioneer Valley High School has two home runs this season.  

Hancock doubled its lead with a three-run second inning. Nunes singled home Nipomo High School graduate Gianna Abatti to make it 4-0. Jessica Rothanzl followed with a two-run single down the left field line to score Megan Love and Nunes with two outs. Chenault followed with a base hit, but Rothanzl was thrown out trying to advance to third base on the single to left.

Nunes, Rothanzl and Love had two hits apiece for Hancock. Chenault, Kristine Ramos, Regalado and Abatti had one hit each. The Bulldogs recorded 10 hits to the Owls' four.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, Feb.25, at Riverside. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
