Twice as Nice: Chenault Wins Second Straight Weekly Award
For the second week in a row, softball pitcher Katie Chenault was named the Southern California Pitcher of the Week by the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (CCCFCA).
The freshman received the honor for the third week of the season when she went a perfect 4-0 during Hancock's championship weekend at the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament. She struck out 39 over 27 innings. She scattered 17 hits and allowed just three earned runs over the four games. The Righetti High School graduate also won the SoCal Pitcher of the Week award for Week #2.
Chenault is a candidate for the week four award. Last week, Chenault threw two complete game shutouts in Hancock victories. She struck out 16 in a two-hit shutout against Taft, before she fanned 13 more in a 6-0 win over 9th ranked Citrus.
The freshman has been instrumental in the Bulldogs' current eight-game winning streak.
Hancock (9-3) plays at Riverside College on Tuesday, Feb.25, at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs host LA Valley College on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. The game will be played at the Hagerman Sports Complex in Santa Maria due to on-going construction of the team's home field on campus.
