Chenault Named Western State Conference Athlete of the Week
Softball pitcher Katie Chenault adds another honor to her growing list of awards. The Allan Hancock College freshman was named the Western State Conference's Female Athlete of the Week #11 on Monday. Chenault has won the last two Southern California Pitcher of the Week honors from the California Community College Fast Pitch Coaches Association.
The conference honored Chenault for her domination between Feb.16-22. She started and pitched every inning of the Bulldogs' four games. She allowed just two earned runs in 28 innings of work and struck out 47 hitters. The Santa Maria native helped the Bulldogs soar into the Southern California Coaches poll for the first time since 1999. Hancock is tabbed No.8 in the regional poll.
Hancock is riding a 10-game winning streak headed into its final non-conference game on Tuesday, March 4, against Bakersfield College. The game starts at 2 p.m., at the Hagerman Sports Complex.
Chenault enters the week with 28-consecutive scoreless innings in the circle. The Bulldogs are 11-3 overall. They open Western State Conference play on Thursday, March 6, at Oxnard.
Hancock has won the last two WSC Female Athletes of the Week. Freshman swimmer Leanna Bramble won the Week#10 honor after she won the Individual Pentathlon title at the season-opening meet on Feb.15. She set five school records in the first-ever meet in the history of the women's swim program.
