N.SB County Athletic Roundtable Names Chenault Female Athlete of the Year

Allan Hancock College pitcher Katie Chenault scored another first for the Bulldog softball team. The Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Roundtable named the freshman its Female Athlete of the Year on Wednesday at the end of the year banquet.

The Righetti High School graduate enjoyed the most dominant season in Hancock softball history. Chenault was named the Western State Conference's Pitcher of the Year and earned All-State honors after she led the Bulldogs to their first conference title since 1998 and first playoff berth since 1999.

Chenault led the state with 26 wins, 370 strikeouts and 10.93 strikeouts per game. She ranked second in California with 32 complete games, nine shutouts and 237 innings. Chenault's earned run average of 1.39 was the fourth-lowest. Chenault broke a 19-year old program record for most strikeouts by 95 whiffs.

Among her highlights this season was a perfect game against L.A. Pierce where she struck out 14 of the 15 hitters, along with a 22-strikeout effort in a 12-inning game against Santa Barbara. The Bulldogs finished the season 26-15 after falling in the first round of the playoffs against Santa Ana.

Chenault, a three-time Southern California Pitcher of the Week and CCCAA Female Athlete of the Month for March, became the first Allan Hancock woman named NSBCART's Female Athlete of the Year.

Hancock and every high school in Northern Santa Barbara County nominated a student-athlete for Male and Female Athlete of the Year, as well as Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
