Chenault and Bulldogs Blank No. 15 Santa Ana 7-0

Pitcher Katie Chenault picked up right where she left off last season during opening day of the 2015 Allan Hancock College softball team's season. The sophomore struck out nine and allowed just five hits in the Bulldogs' 7-0 win over Santa Ana, the No. 15 team in the State Preseason Poll and No.8 squad in the Southern California Regional Poll.

The Bulldogs bounced back from a 5-4 eight-inning loss to Fullerton to even their record at 1-1.

Hancock scored one run in the second, four in the third and two more in the seventh. Catcher Teanna Silveira went two for three with one RBI. Freshman center fielder Judith Salazar collected one double with three RBI. Michaela Valencia scored twice, stole three bases, drove in two runs, and clubbed the team's first home run of the season.

Earlier in the day, Hancock allowed three unearned runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth inning in a 5-4 loss to Fullerton. Chenault struck out 11, walked five and allowed five hits in 7 2/3 innings. Two of the five runs she allowed were earned. Hancock was led offensively by Cal State Northridge recruit Jessica Rothanzl who went two for four with 2 RBI.

The Bulldogs who are ranked No.10 in the SoCal Regional Preseason Poll return to action in Santa Maria on Friday, Feb. 6, against Riverside at noon. Hancock will host East Los Angeles on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m.
