Bulldogs Knock Off Mt. SAC, No. 4 Team in CA, 8-4 and Southwestern 5-0 to Extend Winning Streak to 13 Games

The Allan Hancock College softball team extended its winning streak to 13 games with a 5-0 win at Southwestern followed by an 8-4 victory over Mt. San Antonio College, the fourth ranked team in the state on Saturday afternoon. The win over Mt. SAC ranks among one of the program's biggest and most memorable in recent history. The ninth ranked Bulldogs moved to 15-2-1 overall. Both games were played at Southwestern.

The Bulldogs started the day with a 5-0 win over the host Southwestern. Jessica Rothanzl delivered a single then with two outs, Katie Chenault launched a two-run home run to give the Bulldogs the lead for good. Judith Salazar followed with a single and scored a RBI-double from Ashley Ruiz. Monique Hoobery followed with a triple to the gap to score Ruiz and cap a four-run inning. The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the seventh on a RBI single from Rothanzl.

Chenault once again dominated in the circle. The sophomore scattered four hits and one walk to go with 12 strikeouts. The Bulldogs outhit Southwestern seven to four. Rothanzl had two hits and a RBI, while Megan Love, Chenault, Salazar, Ruiz and Hoobery had one hit each.

In the second game, Mt. SAC took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the third. The Bulldogs responded with six runs in the top of the fourth. Salazar hit a game-tying single and Ruiz followed with a sacrifice fly to left. Teanna Silveira followed with a two-run double. Hancock added two more runs in the inning, one on an error by the first baseman on a ball hit by Love and the other a RBI-double from Rothanzl. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the sixth inning after Mt. SAC scored once in the fourth and two in the fifth to make it a 6-4 game.

The Bulldogs outhit Mt. SAC 10 to five. Chenault allowed four runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out 10.

Love, Silveira and Missy Regalado had two hits apiece. Silveira and Rothanzl had two RBI apiece. Salazar, Ruiz, Rothanzl and Hoobery had one hit each. The last four hitters in Hancock's lineup drove in five of the team's eight runs.

Southwestern dropped to 15-9 overall and saw its six-game winning streak snapped. Mt. SAC fell to 17-5 overall.
