Salazar Drives in Seven as the Bulldogs Bounce Brahmas 22-0 to Sweep Doubleheader, Extend Winning Streak to 15

Freshman center fielder Judith Salazar drove in seven runs, Jessica Rothanzl drove in five, while Missy Regalado went deep and added four RBI as the Allan Hancock College softball team crushed L.A. Pierce 22-0 in five innings on Tuesday on the road to sweep a doubleheader from the Brahmas.

The Bulldogs won their fifteenth straight game. The defending Western State Conference champions improved to 5-0 in conference and 17-2-1 for the season. Pierce fell to 0-3 in league and 1-10 overall.

Hancock recorded 17 hits led by Salazar's four for four effort. Teanna Silveira went 3 for 3 for the second straight game, while Regalado had three hits, Megan Love and Rothanzl had two apiece.

Hancock got on the board two batters into the game. Michaela Valencia scored on a single to center from Love after she walked and stole second base. Love later stole second and scored on a triple to the left-center field gap from Regalado to make it 2-0 Hancock.

The Bulldogs added five in the second on a RBI groundout from Love, a sacrifice fly from Rothanzl, a two-run home run from Regalado, her second longball of the day and third of the year, followed by a RBI-triple from Salazar. Hancock erupted for six more in the third. The rally started with a RBI-double from Silveira to drive in Monique Hoobery, who had walked. Love walked and later scored on a two-run double by Rothanzl to make it 10-0. After Regalado walked, Salazar delivered a two-out double down the right field line to make it 12-0 Bulldogs. Salazar later scored on a RBI-single by Ruiz to cap a six-run frame.

The Bulldogs added four more in the fourth and five in the fifth. Among the highlights were a two-run triple to right-center and a two-run double to center by Salazar.

Katie Chenault started in the circle and threw four no-hit innings. She hit one batter and fanned eight. Trista Berryman threw the fifth inning. The freshman allowed a hit to the leadoff batter and finished with two strikeouts in a shutout inning of relief.

For the day, Salazar went six for seven with seven RBI, two doubles and three triples. Rothanzl went three for six with 10 RBI and one home run. Regalado went four for six with two home runs and six RBI. Love had three hits, three RBI and scored five times. Silveira went six for six with six runs scored, two doubles and two RBI.

 In the two games, Hancock outhit the Brahmas 26 to three and outscored Pierce 31-0.

The Bulldogs return to action next Tuesday, March 24, when they host Cuesta for a twinbill. The first game is set to begin at 1 p.m. with the second game slated for a 3 p.m. start.
