Bulldogs Blank L.A. Pierce 9-0 for 14th Straight Win, Rothanzl Homers and Drives in Five

Jessica Rothanzl clubbed a grand slam and drove in five runs, Missy Regalado went deep, and Teanna Silveira went three for three during the Allan Hancock College softball team's 9-0 win in five innings to open a doubleheader at L.A. Pierce on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs won their fourteenth straight game and improved to 4-0 in Western State Conference play and 16-2-1 overall. L.A. Pierce fell to 0-2 in conference and 1-9 for the season.

The Bulldogs scored the first run of the game in third inning when Silveira and Megan Love both singled. Silveira scored on a scarifice fly to center field by Rothanzl. With two outs, Regalado took Pierce pitcher Nicole Linderman deep and out to center field for a two-run blast, her second home run of the season.

The Bulldogs scored six runs in the fourth to break the game open. Judith Salazar doubled and Ashley Ruiz walked to start the inning. Monique Hoobery sacrificed both runners over with a bunt. Silveira doubled in Salazar to make it 4-0 Hancock. Michaela Valencia walked and Love was hit by a pitch to force in Ruiz to give Hancock a 5-0 lead. Rothanzl followed with a grand slam, for her team-leading sixth home run of the season.

Hancock pitcher Katie Chenault allowed two hits and did not issue a walk. She struck out eight Brahmas and picked up her 16th win of the season.

The Bulldogs collected nine hits overall, led by Silveira's three and two from Salazar.
