Chenault Leads No. 12 Hancock to 2-0 Victory Over Cerritos, Win Streak Reaches 19

Katie Chenault struck out 13 and hit a RBI-double to lead the Allan Hancock College softball team to a 2-0 win over Cerritos College on Saturday to open play at a tournament hosted by Ventura College. The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 12 in the state and sixth in the Southern California Regional, won their nineteenth straight game to improve to 21-2-1. Cerritos, which is ranked ninth in the region, fell to 15-12.

Chenault scattered three hits and issued five walks The sophomore also hit a batter.

The Bulldogs scored the only runs of the game in the first inning. Michaela Valencia led off with a single and stole second. Shortstop Missy Regalado hit a two-out single into leftfield to score Valencia to give Hancock a 1-0 lead four batters into the game. Chenault followed with a double down the right field line to score Valencia and cap the scoring in the game.

Hancock outhit Cerritos four to three. Three of the Bulldogs hits came in the first inning with the fourth coming on a single from Jessica Rothanzl in the third inning.
