No. 12 Hancock Softball Looks to Clinch Outright Conference Championship Thursday

The Allan Hancock College softball team can clinch its second straight outright Western State Conference title with a win at home on Thursday, April 9. The Bulldogs, who are riding a 25-game winning streak, host L.A. Pierce at 2:30 p.m. Hancock, which is ranked No. 12 in the state and sixth in the Southern California Regional, enters the game 11-0 in conference and 27-2-1 overall.

Second place Cuesta and Ventura both have four losses which guarantees the Bulldogs at least a share of the WSC championship. The Bulldogs can win it outright by taking care of business against the last place Brahmas (1-8, 2-16). Hancock swept a doubleheader at LA Pierce last month 9-0 and 22-0, both games went five innings.

Hancock is trying to win back-to-back outright conference championships for the first time since the program won four straight titles from 1995-1998.

Hancock will play at Bakersfield on Friday, April 10, at 2:30 p.m. The game with the Renegades was originally scheduled for the preseason, but was suspended due to rain. Bakersfield has won two straight games to even its overall record at 14-14.

The Bulldogs were scheduled to host the College of the Desert and Cuesta on Saturday, April 11. However, Desert and Cuesta backed out of the contests forcing the cancellation of the two games originally scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Hancock.

The Hancock baseball team will still host Oxnard in a conference game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 11. Bulldog baseball is playing at L.A. Pierce today after their meeting was rained out on Tuesday.
