Chenault and Rothanzl Named to All-State Team, Silveira and Salazar Selected to All-Southern California Team

Allan Hancock College softball stars Katie Chenault and Jessica Rothanzl earned spots on the All-Southern California and All-State Teams, while freshmen Teanna Silveira and Judith Salazar were selected to the All-Southern California Team. The announcement came after the Bulldogs received the second seed for the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Hancock finished the regular season riding a 31-game winning streak and a 33-2-1 overall record under head coach Scia Maumausolo.

Chenault, who was named the Western State Conference's Pitcher of the Year for the second season in a row, received the All-Southern California Pitcher of the Year Award for the second straight year. The Righetti High School graduate leads the state with 32 wins and 369 strikeouts. She ranks second with a 0.66 ERA. Chenault needs two strikeouts in the playoffs to break her own program record for most strikeouts in a single-season. She ranks sixth and seventh all-time in state history for most strikeouts in a season.  Chenault is a two-time All-Southern California and All-State selection.

Rothanzl, who earned All-Southern California honors last season, received her first All-State designation. The first baseman rewrote the Hancock record books for highest single-season batting average at .538, most RBI with 58, most career doubles with 27 and most career RBI with 111. Rothanzl was named the Western State Conference's Player of the Year after leading the league in batting average, home runs with 10 and RBI.

Both Rothanzl and Chenault signed National Letters of Intent last fall to Cal State Northridge.

Salazar started every game for the Bulldogs in center field. She ranked third on the team with a .407 batting average and sits second with 44 RBI. The Righetti High School graduate leads the Bulldogs with 14 doubles, four triples and tied for fourth with three home runs.

Silveira finished second on the club with a .438 batting average. She slugged two home runs and finished fourth on the team with 25 RBI and 30 runs scored. Her on-base percentage of .517 ranked second on the team.

Fifteen players were named to the All-Southern California Team, while 18 players from both the Northern and Southern Regions were selected to the 36-member All-State Team.

The Bulldogs host No. 15 San Diego Mesa in the first round of the playoffs in a best-of-three-game series. Game one is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2. Game two will take place at noon on Sunday, May 3. The third game, if necessary, will start at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
