2015: A Season to Remember for Bulldog Softball

There are countless reasons for the 2015 Allan Hancock College softball team to be proud of its memorable season. They range from a 33-game winning streak, a number two seed in Southern California Regionals, a second straight outright Western State Conference title, a number four ranking in the state poll, numerous individual accolades and hosting a Regional and Super Regional Playoff series.

The Bulldogs finished the season 35-4-1 overall, including a perfect 15-0 run through conference play. The 35 victories were the most by the program in a season in 16 years.

The team also garnered every major honor in the Western State Conference-Gold Division. Head coach Scia Maumausolo was named the WSC Coach of the Year, Jessica Rothanzl was named WSC Player of the Year, and Katie Chenault earned WSC Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season.

Hancock landed five players on the All-Conference-Gold Division First Team in shortstop Missy Regalado, catcher Teanna Silveira, second baseman Michaela Valencia, and outfielders Megan Love and Judith Salazar. Freshmen Ashley Ruiz and Monique Hoobery received honorable mention.

Chenault, Rothanzl, Salazar and Silveira were also named to the All-Southern California Regional Team. Chenault was named the Southern California Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season, as well as named to the All-State and All-American Teams. Rothanzl received a spot on the All-State Team.

Rothanzl and Chenault, who both signed National Letters of Intent to Cal State Northridge, both entered the program record books. Chenault led the state in 2015 with 399 strikeouts, which ranks fourth most in a single-season in state history. Her total of 370 from her freshman season sits seventh all-time. All told, she finished her Hancock career with 769 strikeouts, which is the third-highest career strikeout total by a pitcher in state history.

Chenault won 34 games for the Bulldogs, which ranks fifth most in state history. She ranks 15th all-time for lowest earned run average at 0.85, as well as fourth by averaging 11.72 strikeouts per seven innings.

Rothanzl rewrote the Hancock record book this season. She became the program's all-time leader for career RBI with 114, career doubles with 28, as well as single-season records with 60 RBI, .534 batting average, .577 on-base percentage and .905 slugging percentage.

Hancock will bid farewell to nine sophomores: Serena Fernandez, Elysha Cortez, Valencia, Regalado, Rothanzl, Kayla Stevens, Chenault, Gianna Abatti and Love.
