Hancock Softball to Host Youth Clinic on August 29

Girls on the Central Coast have a chance to learn the game of softball from the two-time defending conference champion Allan Hancock College softball team. The softball clinic will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2015, from 9 a.m. to noon at the softball field on the Santa Maria campus. The clinic is for children ages six to 17. The $50 registration fee includes a T-shirt.

Hancock coaches and players will teach camp goers about the fundamentals of hitting, bunting and baserunning.

"We have a tremendously talented coaching staff and roster of young women who are ready, willing and able to pass on their years of knowledge to local kids," said Hancock Softball Head Coach Maumausolo. "Girls from the Central Coast, who may one day wear a Bulldog uniform, will be able to learn from All-State and All-Conference athletes."

Maumausolo has guided the Bulldogs to back-to-back Western State Conference titles. The 2015 team included All-American Katie Chenault, All-State selection Jessica Rothanzl, as well as All-Southern California picks Judith Salazar and Teanna Silveira. All four grew up in Santa Maria and graduated from Righetti High School.

Maumausolo, who was named the 2015 Western State Conference Coach of the Year, still holds several offensive records at California State University, Northridge, including most career home runs. She has been inducted into the CSUN Athletic Hall of Fame. Chenault and Rothanzl received scholarships to follow Maumausolo's footsteps and play softball in Northridge.

Registration will take place the morning of camp at 8:30 a.m. at the softball field, 30 minutes prior to the start of the clinic. Checks can be made payable to "Allan Hancock College Softball."
