Dasis Delivers Walk-Off Double, Hancock Splits Doubleheader with San Diego

Freshman second baseman Maggie Dasis delivered a two-out game-winning double in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Allan Hancock College softball team to an 8-7 win over San Diego City College to open a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. San Diego bounced back to split the twin bill by taking the second game 11-2 in five innings.

Hancock ended the weekend 2-1 overall, while San Diego left town 2-3.

In the opener, Hancock got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when freshman Emily Gantt singled home Larrissa Ostrander and Shannon Peterson followed with a RBI-single to bring home Judith Salazar.

San Diego tied it with two runs in the top of the second. The Bulldogs erupted for five runs in the home half. The first came on an error, then Salazar hit a two-run double, and Gantt followed with a two-run home run, the first long ball of her Bulldog career.

San Diego chipped away at the 7-2 deficit with one in the third and four more in the fourth to tie it at 7-7. The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when Berryman singled and moved to second on a one-out grounder. With two outs, Dasis, a Righetti High School graduate, delivered a double to the gap to take the opener.

Salazar, Peterson and Gantt had three hits apiece. Gantt finished with 3 RBI and Salazar had two. Ostrander added two hits for the Bulldogs.

Sophomore catcher Monique Hoobery hit the first homerun of her Hancock career, but that was one of few highlights for the Bulldogs in the second game.

San Diego scored three in the first, five in the second, two more in the third and a single run in the fifth. The Bulldogs scored once in the first and once in the third.

Hancock continues its five-game homestand with another doubleheader next Saturday, Feb. 6, against Mt. San Jacinto. The two will play at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
