Berryman Delivers Three Hits and Three RBI in Rout, Hancock Sweeps Doubleheader from LA Pierce

Trista Berryman collected a career-high three hits and 3 RBI, and four other Bulldogs drove in two runs apiece as the Allan Hancock College softball team snapped an eight-game losing skid with a doubleheader sweep of L.A. Pierce on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs won the opener 14-0 in five innings before taking the second game 7-0 via forfeit.

Christabel Chavez drove in the first run of the game in the first inning on a sacrifice bunt that drove in shortstop Larrissa Ostrander. Hancock added two in the second, the first came on a RBI-double by Berryman that drove in Maggie Dasis. The sophomore left fielder later scored on a sacrifice bunt laid down by Larrissa Ostrander.

Hancock erupted for six runs in the third and five more in the fourth. Freshman catcher Emily Gantt started the third with a solo-home run, her team-leading sixth of the season. Micalah Herrigel delivered a two-run single and later scored on Berryman's second RBI-double of the game. Chavez and sophomore center fielder Judith Sazalar also contributed RBI-doubles in the six-run eruption. In the fourth, Berryman and Ostrander added RBI-singles, and Salazar delivered a sacrifice fly.

Hancock finished with 12 hits and capitalized on four errors committed by the Brahmas.

Ostrander and Gantt had two hits apiece. Ostrander, Chavez, Salazar and Herrigel each drove in two runs.

Shannon Peterson earned the win with a four-hit shutout. She struck out four in five shutout innings.

The Bulldogs won the second game 7-0 via forfeit.

Hancock returns to action Thursday, March 24 at 3 p.m. at home against College of the Sequoias.
