Hancock Softball Comes from Behind to Win at Oxnard 10-6

Judith Salazar, Larrissa Ostrander, Maggie Dasis and Emily Gantt drove in two runs apiece to help the Allan Hancock College softball team to a 10-6 come-from-behind win at Oxnard on Thursday afternoon. Hancock improved to 4-5 in Western State Conference play and 13-14-1 overall. Oxnard fell to 1-7 in league and 4-16 overall.

Hancock trailed 6-3 after three innings, but rallied from that point. After Christabel Chavez led off the fourth with a bunt single and stole second, Dasis drew a one-out walk. Salazar, the sophomore center fielder, delivered a two-run double to left to score Chavez and Dasis. Salazar later scored the tying-run on a two-out single to left field off the bat of third baseman Ashley Ruiz.

Hancock rallied again in the fifth. Freshman shortstop Larrissa Ostrander rapped a two-run double to right to drive in Micalah Herrigel and Chavez to give Hancock the lead for good 8-6. Three batters later, Gantt stroked a two-run single to left that scored Ostrander and Dasis to give the Bulldogs a 10-6 advantage.

Hancock scored the first run of the game when Dasis hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Ostrander to score from third. She led off the game by reaching on an error. The Bulldogs added another in the second on a RBI-single by Dasis that scored Ostrander to make it 2-0. However, the Condors scored three in the second and three more in the third. Hancock also scored one in the top of the third thanks to a run-scoring double by Herrigel.

Dasis scored twice, stole three bases and drove in two. Ostrander scored three times, drove in two and stole three bases. Salazar also stole bases as the Bulldogs swiped 10 bases overall. Eight of the nine Hancock hitters in the starting lineup collected at least one hit. Herrigel had two hits.

The Bulldogs will continue their road trip Saturday, April 2 at a tournament hosted by Ventura College. Hancock will face Citrus at 11 a.m. before battling Rio Hondo at 3 p.m.
