Four Hancock Softball Players Score All-Conference Honors

For the second straight year, Allan Hancock College center fielder Judith Salazar earned All-Western State Conference First Team recognition. Salazar was one of four Bulldogs to receive conference honors from coaches on Friday. Freshmen Emily Gantt and Shannon Peterson were named to the Second Team, and Maggie Dasis received honorable mention.

Salazar finished her sophomore season with a team-high .402 batting average and 36 RBI. She clubbed seven doubles, stole seven bases, and struck out just seven times in 112 official at-bats. The St. Joseph High School graduate finished her Hancock career with an all-time batting average of .409, 86 RBI and five home runs.

Gantt led the conference with eight home runs. The redshirt freshman played first base and catcher for the Bulldogs and finished the season with a .349 batting average and team-high .632 slugging percentage. The St. Joseph High School graduate scored 30 runs and drove in 28 runs.

Peterson earned Second Team honors after she finished 13-14 with a 3.22 ERA in the circle for the Bulldogs. She struck out 10 in 184 2/3 innings. Peterson's best game was a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in a 5-0 win against Cuesta College. The Santa Clara native also hit .250 at the plate with six doubles and 17 RBI.

Dasis played in all 39 games her freshman season. The Righetti High School graduate hit .243 with one home run and 18 RBI. She scored 24 runs and finished second on the team with 18 stolen bases.

The Bulldogs finished the season 9-9 in Western State Conference play, and 18-20-1 overall.
